The Africa Inland Church Tanzania (AICT) celebrated its centenary in 2009. The Church was originally founded in the northern regions of Tanzania around Lake Victoria by missionaries of the Africa Inland Mission. 100 years later it is a self-determining mainline denomination with upwards of one million members.

In the last few decades there has been concerted migration by the Church into southern non-traditional AICT areas. The Institute of Bible and Ministry seeks to serve these newly formed churches of the AICT Coastal diocese over an area that is twice the size of the UK.

What is the Institute of Bible and Ministry?

Ifakara seminar 2014The Institute is a continuing theological programme that was conceived back in the mid-1990’s by a number of AIM missionaries who were concerned for the continuing theological development of pastors after they had left Bible College.

The programme is run from the diocesan office in Dar es Salaam by a national team made up of pastors and educational advisors, in partnership with three AIM families based in Morogoro.

Each year we run diocese-wide seminars for pastors and evangelists and their wives, which are then followed up at the regional level. The students are encouraged to write papers and reports that relate directly to their present ministries, and also to look for innovative ways of putting the teaching into practice in their home church situation.

There is a strong emphasis on dealing with local theological issues and questions rather than importing ready-made ‘one size fits all’ solutions. Thus the Institute provides a forum for Tanzanian pastors and evangelists to engage with problems that arise from their own contexts and, as God leads, identify appropriate solutions.

Mission Statement:

The Institute exists to enable, mobilize and inspire its pastors and evangelists to an ever deepening relationship with God and effectiveness in ministry.

The new development at Sanga Sanga for

the Institute's life-long learning vision

Until recently, the Institute, having no buildings of its own, was renting space in colleges and other institutions in order to run the seminars.  However, a 13 acre site just west of Morogoro is being developed as the home of the Institute and a resource for many years to come.

The plan is to construct a residential conference facility to accommodate 100 people with office space, seminar rooms, library facilities, estate office and a demonstration farm.  The centre will provide a strategic platform to encourage, mobilise and inspire the pastors in order to benefit their communities with the agricultural, enterprise, pastoral and life skills they have learnt at Sanga Sanga.

Located along the main Trans African highwayfrom Johannesburg to Cairo, we will also provide cafe and rest facilities for overland travellers and academic retreats for local university departments.  This will in turn provide income for the Institute as well as local employment.

The centre will also provide a demonstration of God's love to the local community of Sanga Sanga, evidenced through various community development projects.

For an update of the development, please see the project tab above.

'It was He who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.'
